I sat at my kitchen window the other morning, watching as our first icy snowflakes coated the garden's last flowers in frosty white. It was all over in a couple of hours, but it was so pretty while it lasted.
Little birds scurried about under the rose bushes as the flakes fell. How nice it would be if they all had a little hat and scarf to keep warm!
My pink roses, which are still blooming (in the middle of November!) looked defiant as they blew in the wind and began to sparkle with bits of ice.
I snapped this picture through the kitchen window ...
then went outside for another.
I thought for sure that bit of snow combined with a few brief nighttime dips below freezing, would be the end of my roses, but not yet, although it will be very soon. They say it's going to be really cold all night tonight. I think I'll cut a few stems and bring them in before they're all gone.
I dragged the Christmas tree down from the attic yesterday with plans to give it it's own frosty white coat. I'll let you know how it turns out in my next post ... keep your fingers crossed!
Two more hand surgeries in October kept me from more stitching, but things are getting better. :)
My thoughts and prayers are with the beautiful people of the Philippines, and all those folks out west who were left with nothing after last weekend's storms.
As always, thanks for your visits. I'll see you again soon!
xo Paulette
Preciosos trabajos.
ReplyDeleteWow Paulette...love this wonderful winter/Christmas bird.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures too!
Hugs
What a cute birdie! I wish my feet could handle the cold like theirs do!
ReplyDeleteYour roses are just lovely. My mums and pansies are still hanging in there! It's amazing how tough they are.
Hope your hands heal super fast! ♥
Oh! Your bird is so nice! And it's so wonderful to see roses in snow! It's like a fairytail!
ReplyDeleteYour lovely stories bring me joy. The felt bird is lovely. The roses are so beautiful still perhaps you can preserve a few. I've sent you a healing light for you hands.
ReplyDeleteThat little bird is so adorable and your roses are really putting up a fight against the cold! Praying your hands heal quickly.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Thanksgiving!
Hugs,
Catherine

ReplyDeleteI"m so sorry you are having problems with your hands Paulette... the worst nightmare for us crafters.
ReplyDeleteAwww...I was just thinking this morning...how i wish the little birdies had somewhere warm to go or something warm to wear... thank goodness they do have the warmest...feathers... like our best down duvets ...I tell myself that at any rate...
He is a little corker. Stay tuned at the end of this month I have a needle felted robin to show but more stabbing fun that this intricate fellow. Jo x
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty photos I really loved the roses covered in ice-and the little bird you made is so sweet
ReplyDeleteCute bird and I love the tassel on top of his hat! I had my hand surgery Friday...slow going around here and my needles keep calling my name. Glad to see you are stitching again! There is hope for me!
ReplyDeleteHello Sweet Paulette, so sorry to hear you needed more surgery and hope that your lovely hands are getting better day by day xx
ReplyDeleteI love your little bird in its little hat and scarf - that is so sweet; and the gorgeous roses with their lovely crisp white edging - which I hope doesn't finish them off before you manage to pick them for a lovely indoors display!
My thoughts and prayers are also with those poor people suffering so badly at this time, and I tend to take on the sadness and futility of such utter devastation!
Do take care of those precious hands that produce such beauty Paulette, and I'll be looking forward to seeing your Christmas tree in all its finery! Love and warm hugs, Joy xoxo
Your poor little roses in the snow! They look so cold. Hope that you are improving after your surgery and can get fully back to your stitching soon. xx
ReplyDeleteYour little bird is so sweet. The comments on your roses, kinda bitter sweet, they are still beautiful, yet it is kinda sad that the weather will eventually win out and they will probably not bloom anymore. The weather here is frightful and cold. It is all I can do to get all the leaves raked and yet the trees were not completely bare yet and the wind helped change that. I am just blessed to be sitting in a warm house. The Philippines and our several states are suffering the ravages of this terrible weather from Mother Nature. The people needing help is endless. I do what I can, and I pray a lot too.
ReplyDelete(((HUGS))) Susanne :)
Oh , and how could I have forgotten, hope your recovery continues. God speed! (((HUGS))) Susanne :)

ReplyDeleteHey Paulette!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that the surgeries are behind you and you are able to stitch again. That little bird is so sweet. I love the sprig of holly.
I am looking forward to seeing how your tree comes out.
Hugs!
Your cute little bird looks cozy! I went to your profile see where you live...wondering where roses continue to bloom in the frost ~lol~. You HAD to mention Christmas Tree.
ReplyDeleteDo you think our minds are in a holiday routine that defies the calendar? Thanksgiving is a week late this year which means that normally I would be putting up the tree this weekend. I was thinking that I should get my tree down too!
Oh, I forgot you mentioned hand surgery. So sorry you had to have that done. Hope all is well now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird, hope your hands recover soon, I have arthritis in my hands, makes doing the things you love so painful at times!
ReplyDeleteThat little bird is just darling; she's a keeper. Hope your hand is soon put to rights. We who depend on our hands for so much are chuffed when we are restricted by our own anatomy. Carpal tunnel has bitten me and caused owies more than once.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Paulette, hope your holidays are happy, home-like and filled with love.
Your creations are gorgeous. Keep blogging so we can enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteYour little bird dressed for the cold is very lovely !
